Patient Flow Management and Its Impact on Hospital Efficiency: A Mixed-Methods Case Study

Abstract

Effective patient flow is important for improving hospital operations, minimizing wait times, and enhancing patient outcomes. Present research mainly discovers the connection between hospital efficiency and patient flow management using the mixed method. Moreover It examines the main elements in patient flow management that improve the efficiency of a hospital. The main elements include patient discharge, movement between the departments, and patient admission.

The quantitative sector involves interviews with the hospital organization administrators, operational staff, and clinicians. Generally these interviews provide meaningful information and best practices for handling the patient flow. The qualitative information also explores the human factors and technological, and organizational that impact patient flow management. The quantitative sector involves evaluating the operational information like wait times and throughput, bed usage rates, and discharge times. However the statistical analysis will evaluate the effect of patient flow strategies on hospital efficiency metrics.  Moreover the main aim is to recognize areas of development to minimize the bottlenecks and update the movements of patients.

The results from both sections highlight the importance of modernizing patient flow for hospital performance. The research recognizes the strategies to enhance patient flow and minimize delays, such as improving bed usage and minimizing discharge times. Interviews expose that coordination and communication among the hospital staff are important for an efficient patient program.  However by combining qualitative and quantitative information, the research offers a clear view of patient flow management.  These recommendations are used for hospitals to implement strategies that highlight care quality. These are also used for hospitals to apply strategies that improve patient flow and are useful for both healthcare providers and patients. Improving the patient flow is a main element to reaching greater hospital efficiency and effective patient outcomes.
