Description
Exploring the Impact of Health Information Systems on Decision-Making in Hospitals: A Mixed-Methods Approach
Abstract
A health information system collects data from different health sectors, which includes patient information. Analyzing quality and timelines of data it converts into decision-making. That improves patient safety by preventing problems in treatment. As the health information system is handling a large volume of data, security will be the main thing for the production, through monitoring patients daily and knowing about health improvement. With this data, doctors get clarity about health and treat them according to their problems and check their health improvement. This study aims to know how health information systems are impacting hospitals in decision-making.
The mixed method approach includes quantitative and qualitative data to tell more about the health information system. Quantitatively, it stores numerical data of patients, like rates, errors, and outcomes before and after treatment. It also measures the satisfaction scores of patients through surveys. Generally these results suggest health information systems in decision-making and rectify problems in it. Implementing some factors like staff training and system integration shows effectiveness on it. However, qualitative interviews with doctors, nurses, and health care professionals to know about challenges faced in health information systems. After all these interviews, we get information about workflow, data overload, and system usability, knowing these helps to modify it and make them work more effectively.
This research tells about health information system impacts on decision-making at hospitals. This health information system tells about complete details of the patient and helps to reduce problems in treatment. That information helps the doctor to monitor patients’ health status daily and also helps patients to know about their health condition. Moreover, knowing about patient feedback leads to some changes in decision-making. Some challenges are faced while implementing; this study recommended strategies to overcome and make better decision making.
