The Impact of COVID-19 on Healthcare Supply Chains: A Mixed-Methods Analysis of Disruptions and Resilience

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic includes significant vulnerabilities in the supply chains of healthcare, disturbing the logistics of global healthcare. The study analyses these disruptions and finds resilience strategies considered to manage the continuity of the supply chain by considering the approach of mixed methods, which integrates the key performance indicators quantitative analysis with the qualitative insights from the supply chain managers of healthcare. The research properly evaluates the delivery delays, inventory fluctuations, and supply shortages before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The findings highlight the important gaps in potential medical supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators. Companies implement adaptive strategies, including stockpile expansion and supplier diversification, to manage the disruptions more effectively.

Whereas Quantitative analysis assesses the stability of the supply chain by calculating procurement delays, fluctuating the levels of inventory, and measuring shortages. The results show that companies with the strategies of proactive risk management minimize the disruption’s impact. The study clearly explains the importance of digital tools, improved forecasting techniques, and digital tools in healthcare supply chain strengthening. Moreover qualitative interviews with healthcare professionals and supply chain managers offer deeper insights into the decision-making of real-time crises. Participants stress the requirement of collaboration, data-driven strategies, and flexibility to improve resilience. By encouraging the cooperation of cross-sectors and using technology-driven logistics, healthcare companies manage efficiency even with the challenges.

The study provides recommendations for future healthcare supply chain crisis preparedness. Generally strengthening the capabilities of forecasting, improving the partnerships of suppliers, and investing in the infrastructure of digital is important for long-term resilience. However healthcare organizations and policymakers are required to integrate the decision-making of data-driven and improve the supply chain operations transparency. Generally by successfully adopting solutions for innovative logistics and strengthening the collaborations of international, it improves the resilience of the supply chain. An adaptable and robust healthcare supply chain is important for managing the global health crises in the future effectively.
